Local quilt guild hosting duo

The Cabin Country Quilt Guild will present the Cori Derksen and Myra Harder lecture and trunk show on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the J.W. Walker School gym.
Admission is $5, and everyone is welcome.
These enterprising women from Winkler, Man. have turned their love for quilting into a successful business.
The pair began designing quilts in 1997 and since then, they have been featured in many quilting magazines, published five books and a CD Rom, and designed two fabric collections for RJR.
Beyond the business, they are wives and mothers.
This promises to be an enjoyable evening as they share their quilts, as well as their journey from childhood friends to successful entrepreneurs.
Following their presentation, the quilt guild invites you to join them for coffee, tea, dainties, and “quilt talk.”
Then on the Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 27-28), 30 quilters will enjoy a retreat and workshop with Derksen and Harder. The projects feature “Bohemian Rhapsody”—their next line of fabric for RJR.
The Cabin Country Quilt Guild’s mission statement reads as follows: A fellowship of quilters with the common goal of continuing the heritage of quilt making.”
Some of the things we do include:
•making and donating quilts to residents of Rainycrest;
•providing quilts for local police cruisers to comfort children in distress;
•making commemorative quilts (i.e., Fort Frances centennial); and
•donating quilts for local fundraisers, such as the “Luncheon of Hope,” Valley Adult Learning Association, “Spirit of Christmas,” Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau, and the New Year’s baby.
Our latest project is making a quilt for the “Luncheon of Hope,” which is coming up in October. As well, we will be demonstrating hand-quilting at the women’s symposium on May 12.
Our next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau (old CN station). The fat quarter for February is Batik.
