Local man fined for fire

the MNR

A Fort Frances resident has been fined $150 and has one year to pay $4,500 for the cost of putting out a forest fire he caused.
Bradley Bodnarchuk pleaded guilty to failing to extinguish a fire, contrary to the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario.
Court heard that on the evening of July 5, Bodnarchuk was burning wood waste at his cabin at Crowrock Inlet on Rainy Lake.
Later that evening, he tried to extinguish the fire and believed it was out.
The next day, he added more wood waste to the fire pit and a bush fire ignited shortly thereafter.
A Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Ranger crew responded to the fire and it was declared out on July 7.
Justice of the Peace Pat Daub heard the case Aug. 29 in Fort Frances.
