Local Chamber reps off to NOACC meeting

Power deregulation, rural health care, and membership drives will top the agenda during the annual spring meeting of the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce this weekend in Marathon.
Three members of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce will attend the meeting April 20-22, along with representatives from all 15 Chambers across Northwestern Ontario.
“This is really our planning meeting to provide information to our membership,” said local Chamber rep Tannis Drysdale, who also is NOACC’s president-elect.
Drysdale will be joined by Gary Rogozinski of Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. and Anne Zucchiatti from Rainy Lake Realty.
This year also is the first time every Chamber of Commerce in Northwestern Ontario is a paid-up member of NOACC, which has seen a steady membership increase.
“We have more forming all the time,” said Drysdale.
The annual planning session will feature round-table discussions and seminars on a number of infrastructure and economic development topics, many affecting communities throughout the northwest.
Besides exchanging ideas and initiatives, NOACC acts as a collective voice lobbying the provincial government to help improve economic development initiatives and infrastructure improvements.
“We represent over 2,000 businesses and 14 of the biggest corporations in Northwestern Ontario,” noted Drysdale.
