Kitchen and Bath Plus, located at 650 Fifth St. W., was extensively damaged by fire late last night.
The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at 12:20 a.m. after a report from a passer-by.
About 20 firefighters and two fire trucks responded to find a “fully-involved” structure fire, meaning that fire, heat, and smoke in the structure were so widespread that firefighters could not get inside.
Firefighters executed a “defensive attack” on the blaze to suppress it.
This is an exterior form of attack firefighters use when fighting the fire directly, or from within a structure, is not possible due to dangers from direct flame, heat, or structural collapse.
The blaze was brought under control between 2 and 2:30 a.m.
Several firefighters on site this morning described the damage as “extensive,” although they still were waiting to investigate inside the structure.
Firefighters were remaining on scene to monitor the site and wait for fire investigators to arrive.
The cause of the fire was not known as of press time.
