Local band new to the stage at FFCBC

The “Kings of None” are making their tournament debut as a major nighttime entertainment act during the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship here next weekend.
The group of four local men includes Dave Byrnes (lead singer/guitar), Tyler Gagne (lead guitar), Ted DeBenetti (bass guitar), and the band’s drummer and spokesperson Todd “Wrolly” Wrolstad.
“It’s guitar-driven hard rock,” Wrolstad explained of the band’s sound and its influence from the 1980s music scene, during a brief telephone interview on Monday morning.
The band’s name came about after Wrolstad heard a song called “King Nothing.”
“I thought that [name] was kind of cool but when I ‘googled’ it there was about a million bands with that name, so we just changed it around to make it a little different,” he explained.
“We’ve been together [as a band] for about a year,” he added, noting the “Kings of None” recently released their first CD, after a year’s worth of recording eight original songs in a custom-built control room and recording studio in Wrolstad’s basement. He went to college for music production and recording engineering.
It took about three months for Wrolstad to mix music for the CD, which also includes the local influences of Todd Dolk’s artwork on the CD cover with photographs by Tom Foley. A mastering house in Iowa completed the product.
“At first we just wanted to get our CD out there. Anyone who’s ever played an instrument would love to have a CD out,” Wrolstad reasoned.
“That was our main goal and now, we’re just hoping to break even on the cost of the CD!”
The “Kings of None” are tentatively slated to appear at the FFCBC on Saturday, July 28th at 9 p.m.
The “Kings of None” CDs are $10 each and are being sold at Sight & Sound, A Buck or Two, Bombshell and also on their web-site KingsofNone.ca
