Lions hosting WHO luncheon

In conjunction with the World Health Organization’s conference coming here next week, the local Lions Club will get into the spirit of things with a meet-and-greet luncheon Monday at the Lions Millennium Park on Second Street East.
“We thought we could maybe make contact with other Lions from across the world—just give people the chance to meet these visitors,” said Dede Mallory of the Lions Club.
“And we’d like to draw attention to the park, which we’re proud of,” she added. “It’s within walking distance of the arena so anyone there for the conference can just come on over.”
The free barbecue luncheon, which is slated to run from noon-2 p.m., also is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend, said Mallory.
With the exception of the youth pre-conference running Monday at Couchiching, the WHO conference doesn’t officially begin until Tuesday.
But many of the hundreds of delegates from more than 30 countries are expected to arrive here over the weekend, and likely will be registering for the conference Monday.
