Lightning may have caused a fire at a Sixth Street West residence around midnight on Saturday.
Rob Dokuchie of the Fort Frances Fire Department said lightning is suspected, although the department still was investigating the exact cause of the blaze.
While the owner was not home at the time, neighbours noticed the smoke and called to report it, noted Dokuchie.
“[They] heard a big crash so that’s why we’re suspecting it was due to the lightning strike,” he said.
“So it was good there were some neighbours who were on the ball and looked around and saw the smoke.”
Firefighters were able to contain the fire “pretty quickly,” Dokuchie added, limiting some of the damage done to the house.
The exact damage still was being investigated.
No injuries were reported.
