Lightning sparks fire

One new fire was reported in Fort Frances District late Tuesday evening.
Fort Frances Fire #39 was a lightning-caused blaze located on Highway 622, north of Atikokan.
The fire was 0.1 ha in size and originally actioned by the public.
It is now listed as “out.”
Aside from that blaze, the number of active fires in the West Fire Region has remained at 13 for several days now, with five in Nipigon District, one in Red Lake District, and seven in Sioux Lookout District.
No problems have been reported with these fires. Most are located in the north and are being monitored.
Meanwhile, with more rain in the forecast, the fire hazard is “low” across the central portion of the region and “moderate” in the south and north.
The exception is the far northern sectors of the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts, which are recording a “high” hazard.
The forecast is calling for this “high” hazard to continue in the far north through to mid-week.
