Storms still are playing havoc with work crews scrambling to re-open Highway 11 to Atikokan, which has been closed for the past 10 days due to a washout at Price Creek.
“As a result of the severe lightning storm that entered the Price Creek area early [Wednesday] evening, all work on the replacement bridge had to be stopped,” MTO regional director Larry Lambert said in a press release.
“For safety reasons, hoisting equipment could not be operated and the night shift had to be removed from the steel bridge,” he noted.
Work was slated to resume this morning and Lambert said he expected the highway to be finally opened to traffic by late this afternoon.
The washout was caused when a beaver dam burst.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation reported this morning that all other highways in the area are now open.
