The Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre is ready to celebrate the season with patrons, town and district residents, with a series of fun family activities taking place in December.
The list for the Annual Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt is now ready for pickup. There are 15 items on the list in the community within the limits of Fort Frances.
Samantha Manty, Children Services Clerk at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre, said participants can either take pictures or write down the addresses, and submit them back to the library by 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
“We’re going to have a few prizes for the scavenger hunt,” Manty said. “Anyone can participate. You don’t have to be a library patron. People can get the list by either coming here and picking up a paper copy or going on our website, where we have a PDF that they can download. If they’re not comfortable doing that, they can email us, and we can send it to them as well.”
As well, the library is also working with Community Living’s Faith Moen to put together a special surprise for kids mid-December.
The library is also doing a “Season’s Readings” photo contest, where people can take a festive photo and send it to the library either over Facebook Messenger or by email.
“They also have to tell us their favourite Christmas book, movie or album,” Manty said. “Then they’ll be entered for a draw for a $50 Visa gift card.”
To encourage patrons to enjoy the Christmas season, adults will get a free tote with hot chocolate and candy canes with every two items checked out, and kids who check out two items will get an activity booklet. Children who check out five items will win the Christmas tote.
“We are going to put together amazing Christmas displays as well,” Manty said.” We want them to enjoy our Christmas items, and there is only so long throughout the year that they go out, so it’s nice to actually get them out the door and have people enjoying them.”
