Alicia Subnaik Kilgour will begin her position as the new chief executive officer at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre on Sept. 4.
Kilgour, who has extensive experience working in libraries, is about to graduate from the University of Western Ontario in London with a Master of Library and Information Science degree.
After that, she will be busy packing up and heading north with her husband, Tom, and seven-year-old daughter, Mackenzie.
“I am very excited about relocating to Fort Frances,” Kilgour said. “I travelled to Fort Frances for the job interview and have returned to look for homes.
“The beautiful, breathtaking landscapes and friendly people will make our family move here much easier,” she added.
“I also am very excited about serving the community and promoting library services from a state-of-the-art library facility.”
Kilgour seemed excited about how involved the library is in the local community, and looks forward to continuing the many programs it offers.
“I am so very impressed with the library facility, programs, and services currently being offered,” she remarked.
“I look forward to continuing to offer innovative and creative programs and services.”
Once here, Kilgour plans to meet with different groups before starting anything new.
“With respect to future goals for the library, I want to start first by consulting with the library staff, library board, and the community about setting the new strategic plan and direction,” she explained.
“While I bring new ideas, technologies, and perspectives, I want to learn about the community and how the library will best meet the needs of this evolving community now and in the upcoming years,” she reasoned.
“I understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration, and will work to strengthen current partnerships while developing new connections and partnerships within the community.
“As for myself, I look forward to putting into practice the knowledge, skills, and abilities, both professional and practical, that I have accumulated over the years,” Kilgour added.
“I really look forward to setting the strategic plan, and working with a very proactive library board, [town] council, and staff.”
Kilgour believes firmly in the library and its role in the community, and wants people to know that.
“I am very passionate about library services,” she remarked. “I believe the public library is the heart of a community.
“We have the opportunity to build better, stronger communities by continuing to be advocates for all in our community and by providing free, equitable access to information, services and technologies,” she stressed.
“I have a genuine belief in life-long learning, and will continue to keep current and abreast of new developments, innovations, and technologies,” Kilgour pledged.
“Most importantly, I want the people to know that I am honoured and privileged to have this opportunity to serve Fort Frances.”
