The McGuinty Liberal government’s rejection of an NDP motion to take the HST off hydro won’t help Northwestern Ontario families struggling to pay the bills, says NDP leader Andrea Horwath.
“As winter comes, Northwestern Ontario families and seniors are seeing their hydro bills skyrocket,” said Horwath.
“It’s becoming increasingly harder and harder for people to pay the bills and make ends meet.”
In Question Period yesterday, Horwath raised the concerns of residents Jim Irish from Kenora and Eliana Wittwer from Dryden.
“Both Mr. Irish and Ms. Wittwer need a break on their hydro bills. Taking the HST off hydro would have given them that much-needed break,” said Horwath.
“Instead of making life more affordable for people, the McGuinty Liberals are making everything more expensive,” she added.
