The local Legion can expect to get tax relief from the town.
In a report from town clerk Lisa Slomke, she noted that since 1927, the council of the Town of Fort Frances has granted an exemption under the Municipal Act from municipal taxes to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29.
The maximum exemption period is for 10 years.
The last bylaw passed by council allowed the exemption through to 2009.
To rectify the exemption back to 2010, the town will refund taxes paid in 2010-14—for a total refund of $17,936.03.
Council is expected to pass a bylaw to exempt, from the municipal portion of taxes, land that is used and occupied as a memorial home, clubhouse, or athletic grounds by persons who served in the armed forces of His or Her Majesty or of an ally of His or Her Majesty in any war (i.e., the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29).
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., with the regular council meeting to follow.
The agenda also will include:
