Legion ladies welcome several new members

Thirty-one members attended the Feb. 9 meeting of the Br. #29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Memberships were approved for Liza Perron, Diane Schindel, Dorleen Dyrland, and Debbie Hebert while Julie Lowry and Marie Howells were reinstated as members.
Meanwhile, president Sylvia Gunderson initiated Catherine Dobie, Dorleen Dyrland, and Diane Schindel, who were warmly welcomed by the members in attendance.
The charter will be draped for Eileen Calder at the next meeting on March 9.
The attendance draw of $31 was won by Denise Miller while Irene Laing won the birthday draw.
Also celebrating February birthdays were Gwen Westover and Theresa Dobie.
Delores Cross, the Sick and Visiting convener, reported on auxiliary members in hospital and advised that flowers will be sent.
In her annual report, she noted that flowers or fruit baskets were sent to 18 members, sympathy cards went to seven members, and memorials were sent to four families.
Birthday cards, Thinking of You cards, and Christmas cards also were sent throughout the year.
She expressed her thanks to Christine Eisenzopf for making cards with the auxiliary crest.
Ways and Means convener Sandy Pruys reported a very busy year for 2010.
She advised that a number of events will be held in February, as well as the monthly cutlet supper, which will be held Feb. 25.
Gloria Bergner and Heather Gunderson will be sharing the position of Ways and Means convener for 2011.
Josie Miller advised that plans for the auxiliary rally, which will be held April 1-2, are progressing well.
The next planning meeting will be held tomorrow (Feb. 15) at 7 p.m.
Finally, President Sylvia announced plans to honour auxiliary members with 50 years or more of membership at a tea to be held May 1.
As usual, Josie Miller, the social convener, served a snack following the meeting.
