At the meeting of Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #29 on May 13, president Sylvia Gunderson initiated and warmly welcomed Sally Stewart as a new member.
The re-installation of Edith Bodnar was approved, as was the membership for Rochelle Duchnicki.
In other business, the auxiliary approved a donation to the Fort Frances High School “chem-free” grad.
Plans also were made to hold a pancake breakfast on July 1. It will be served from 7-10 a.m., with the cost being $6 for adults and $3 for children five and under.
Sgt.-at-Arms Yvonne Chambers reported the colour party attended the veterans’ dinner on May 1, as well as the Norma Perlette memorial service on May 9.
Upcoming events include Decoration Day in Emo (May 23) and Memorial Day in International Falls (May 24).
A letter was received from Provincial Council for the Manitoba Northwestern Ontario Command’s 44th biennial convention coming up on June 15.
Resolutions to be discussed at the convention were presented.
Four representatives from the local auxiliary will attend.
The birthday draw was won by Millie Dawson while Sylvia Gunderson won the attendance draw.
Delores Cross reported that a scrapbook of Norma Perlette’s Legion activities had been donated to the auxiliary by the Perlette family.
Meanwhile, Ways and Means chairperson Sandy Pruys reported on a very busy month, and thanked the members for their outstanding efforts in catering to 11 events in a three-week period in April.
A cutlet dinner will be held next Friday (May 29), with tickets—costing $13/person—going on sale at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
Gloria Bergner agreed to be the captain for the auxiliary team in the annual “Relay for Life,” which will be held June 26-27 at Pither’s Point Park.
Auxiliary members interested in participating on the team should contact Gloria at 274-9340.
A potluck dinner will be held Wednesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. prior to the regular meeting.
Any women interested in joining the auxiliary are welcome to attend the dinner and meeting, which will be held at the Legion Hall.
Membership in the auxiliary no longer is restricted to relatives of veterans.
