Legion ladies welcome guest

Members of the Br. #29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary met Wednesday, March 14 with 35 members present.
With president Silvia Gunderson presiding, reports heard from the various committees.
Guest speaker Linda Hamilton was on hand to tell the membership about the Fort Frances Community Chest, including its origin and its purpose.
The organization is made up of volunteers, with the Town of Fort Frances doing the bookkeeping and issuing the cheques.
Roughly $35,000-$40,000 is given out each year.
Meanwhile, several of the ladies are excited and preparing costumes to attend the district meeting in Rainy River this coming weekend (March 30-April 1).
The theme is “Disney.”
The Charter was draped in honour of Kay Boucher at the March 14 meeting.
At the February meeting, the Charter was draped in honour of Pat Kozik and Emily Munro.
In other news, a donation was approved for the 2012 Rainy River District Festival for the Performing Arts.
Four bursaries to Fort Frances High School students for 2012 also was approved.
The Legion Athletics Camp is looking for dorm deans for this summer. Contact Silvia Gunderson for details if you’re interested.
Entertainment saw the Birthday draw won by Sandra Pruys and the attendance draw won by Gwen Westover.
Bingo was held after the meeting and a light lunch enjoyed.

Membership in the auxiliary no longer is restricted to relatives of veterans.
