Legion ladies tops for most new members

Laurie Mann and Jackie Dupuis-Brandli were installed at the Br. #29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary meeting last Wednesday (April 8).
In other business that evening, the auxiliary approved a donation to the District 7 Scholarship Fund and agreed to participate again in the Fort Frances High School scholarships and bursaries.
As well, the auxiliary is looking to dispose of 150 pace settings of dishes since it has purchased new dishes and cutlery.
The report from the district meeting, which was held April 4 in Ear Falls, indicated that 16 members of the local auxiliary attended.
Sgt.-at-Arms Yvonne Chambers conducted a colour party training in the morning, then led the colour party at the meeting in the afternoon.
Sylvia Gunderson was elected chair and Sandy Pruys was elected secretary for the district scholarship fund.
President Sylvia also was proud to announce that the Br. #29 auxiliary had won the plaque for the most new members in 2008.
The next district meeting will be held March 27, 2010 in Dryden.
The Sgt.-at-Arms reported that May 9 has been confirmed for the Norma Perlette memorial service.
She also said the colour party will participate in the Emo Decoration Day on May 23 and the Memorial Day service in International Falls on May 24.
The attendance draw was won by Claire Steinke while Chris Eisensoph won the birthday draw.
The Northwestern Ontario/Manitoba biannual convention will be held June 14-16 at the Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg.
Local delegates will be Sylvia Gunderson, Diane Taggart, Loreen Ring, and Dolores Cross, with the alternates being Yvonne Chambers and Sandy Pruys.
A roast beef dinner will be held Friday, April 24, with tickets going on sale at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
The auxiliary’s next general meeting will be held Wednesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Legion.
