Ladies of the Br. #29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary met on Wednesday, Feb 10 with 32 members present.
Reports were heard from the committees.
Sergeant-at-Arms Yvonne Chambers reported the colour party attended funerals for two members.
Our local Legion auxiliary has been asked to march in the colours at the district meeting being held March 26-28 in Dryden.
Fort Frances auxiliary first vice-president Alfreda Easton, in her position as president of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario auxiliary, will be the guest speaker at this event.
The theme will be “The ’50.” If you are interested in going, please contact Alfreda.
In other news, the annual Veterans’ Day supper will be held May 1 upstairs at the local Legion. Entertainment will be provided for the vets.
A leadership and development day is slated for May 8 in Atikokan, followed by a colour party school there on May 9.
District Decoration Day will be held June 5 in Atikokan.
Applications for reinstatement were received and approved for Denice Miller, Cheryl Bodnarchuk, and Carla Galbraith.
Meanwhile, the names of Anne Zucchiatti, Sylvia Smeeth, and Tracy Allen were presented and approved for membership.
Entertainment at the meeting saw the birthday draw won by Gwen Westover and the attendance draw by Helen Matheson. The special Valentine draws were won by Josie Miller and Irene Huntley.
Bingo was held after the meeting, with prizes to winners and good neighbours.
Ways & Means representative Sandra Pruys reported that January was very busy with five funerals, two banquets, and one monthly supper.
Our next monthly supper, this time featuring roast beef with all the trimmings, will be held this Friday (Feb. 26) at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion.
The cost is $13/person and everyone is welcome!
Any ladies interested in joining the Legion auxiliary is asked to contact Linda Larocque at 486-3698. Membership no longer is restricted to relatives of veterans.
