The local Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary met on Nov. 11, with 35 members in attendance.
The charter was draped in memory of Eva Costello and Shirley Bruyere.
Auxiliary president Alfreda Easton and first vice-president Sandy Pruys thanked everyone for helping make the annual Remembrance Day tea such a huge success.
They were very pleased with the excellent turnout and thanked everyone who came out to support this event.
Branch president Ray Watson, meanwhile, conducted the election of officers, with Easton as president, Pruys as first vice, Leslie Bell as second vice-president, and Josie Miller as treasurer.
Also elected were Linda LaRocque (Sergeant-at-Arms), Irene Laing/Janet Lambert (Membership), Jan Gosman/Diane Taggart (Social), Susan Neurinski (Sick & Visiting), and Giselle Calder (Publicity).
Christina McDougall was appointed as secretary.
Two positions were left unfilled—Ways & Means and Entertainment.
Members who might be interested in filling these positions are invited to contact president Alfreda Easton at 274-9105 for more info.
Sergeant-at-Arms Linda LaRocque reported that the Colour Party attended Remembrance Day ceremonies at J.W. Walker School and then marched with the branch at the cenotaph.
They also will be marching at the International Falls and Fort Frances Christmas parades.
In other news, the Auxiliary still is taking bookings for Christmas parties. Call Clara Stainke (274-9096) for menus and available bookings.
Meanwhile, the auxiliary’s monthly supper will go today (Nov. 27) and everyone’s favourite is on the menu: ham, perogies, cabbage rolls, scalloped potatoes, and, as always, home-baked pies.
All for $15 a plate, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
The 50/50 “Joker Poker” also will be played.
Members were reminded that Vicki Jewell is the phone convener, and were asked to consider giving some time helping out with events that have been booked when she calls them.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9, with a very brief meeting at 6 p.m., followed by a supper and Christmas party with gift exchange.
Members also are reminded to bring along a non-perishable food item for the local food banks.
The October early-bird membership draw was won by Sandra Gosselin.
Early-bird draws will be held in December for members who have paid their dues before the end of November, and again in January for those paying dues before the end of December.

New members are always welcome. The attendance draw was won by Evie Gosselin while Margie Gibson won the birthday draw.
