Legion ladies approve new member

The local Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary to Br. #29 met on Sept. 12, with 33 members in attendance.
An application for membership was presented and approved for Joyce Schulz.
The charter was draped for Mary Ducharme and her 51 years of service. She held offices of second-vice, first-vice, president, and past president.
The August birthday draw was won by Donna McKelvie (cards to Carolyn Oliver and Christina McDougal) while Alfreda Easton won the September birthday draw.
Clara Stainke won the attendance draw.
The auxiliary attended the honours and awards ceremony held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall.
A reminder the auxiliary’s next monthly supper, featuring roast beef, will be held tomorrow (Sept. 28) at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion.
Admission is $16/person, with the doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
As well, the annual Remembrance Day Tea will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Legion. Be sure to mark your calendar (more info to follow).
Remembrance Day Tea 50/50 tickets are for sale now. They cost $2 each and are available from auxiliary members.
The draw will be made on Nov. 4.
Meanwhile, a raffle for queen-sized quilt will be drawn on Nov. 11. Tickets also cost $2 each, which are available from auxiliary members.
In other news, 2018 Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Br. #29 bursaries went to Lillie MacKinnon, Lyz Klem, Hailey Tucker, and Eric Pitkanen.
Auxiliary sponsorship/support included senior bowlers attending the Ontario Summer Games in Mississauga, the Peace Gardens Athletic Camp (five youths attended), and prizes for the Sept. 19 Bingo at Rainycrest.
As well, preparations are underway for the Legion convention to be held June 14-17, 2019 in Fort Frances.
The auxiliary’s next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
It will feature a potluck supper so be sure to bring your favourite dish and a non-perishable food item for the grocery hamper.
The election of officers will take place at the Nov. 14 meeting. If you currently hold an executive position, or if you are interested to throw your name in the hat, contact Joanne Gosselin at 274-5932 to let her know your intentions.
