Legion elects new executive

Press Release

As winter sets in and the cold wind blows, events at our local Legion are heating up.
The poppy campaign is over for another year. Thanks to the generosity of Fort Frances residents, this year’s campaign raised more than $13,000.
A percentage of this money will be spent next year on a Legion-approved donation within this community.
As well, awards were handed out at Robert Moore School and Fort Frances High School for the winners of the literary and poster contests. Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone who participated.
November also saw the election of officers for 2009, including Noris Piccinato (president), Bob Bagacki (first vice-president), Bob Boland (second vice-president), Glen Westover (service officer), and Jim Marr (Sergeant-at-Arms).
Rounding out the executive are Ray Watson (sports), Ken Dejardins (Ways and Means), Marg VanDrunen (membership), Walter Sobkowicz (sick and visiting), Aurora Doerksen (entertainment), and Wendy Derendorf (publicity).
Our thanks to Dan and Marlene Gagne who travelled to Fort Frances to oversee the election.
There is entertainment every Friday and Saturday night in the Legion clubroom, which is open to the public.
Wings are available every Friday when there is not a Ladies auxiliary dinner.
A reminder that mixed darts take place every Wednesday and cribbage is on Thursdays. All of these events also are open to the public.
If you have any questions, or are interested in joining the Legion, call the office at 274-0129.
