‘Legends’ concert a sold-out affair

The Riverside Foundation for Health Care hosted the Thunder Bay Legends (“A Tribute Artist Extravaganza”) at the Townshend Theatre here Saturday night—and discovered it was as much a blockbuster as the first time the troupe came through here in April.
“It was sold out. We sold tickets right until it started,” said Foundation director Teresa Hazel.
“It’s a great event in that it draws in the whole district. There were people there I’d never seen in the Townshend Theatre before,” Hazel enthused, adding some came from as far as Stratton for the show.
The evening, which netted $4,500 for the Foundation, featured new performances as well as some favourites from the first show, including Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, ABBA, Trisha Yearwood, Cher, Julio Iglesias, Willie Nelson, Celine Dion, and Elvis Presley.
There also was a guest appearance by district singer Jodi Allan, performing as Shania Twain, while former local resident Pat Cupp took the stage again as Yearwood.
“Having Shania was so good,” said Hazel. “And Pat [Cupp] has such a nice stage persona. It was great.”
Hazel felt the show was at least as good as the first one held in April, adding that the mix of old favourites like Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash, and new personae like Willie Nelson, Cher, and Celine Dion, was key to keeping it fresh.
She said it’s possible the Foundation could bring the “Legends” back next year, given the fact the two shows this year brought in $11,000 to support district health care.
