With three months under their belt at their new downtown location, the Northwest Community Legal Clinic here is inviting the public to an official grand-opening celebration this Friday (Oct. 21).
“We’ve definitely seen a change,” executive director Trudy McCormick said about the move from the second floor of the Northern Lights Credit Union building to 206 Scott St. at the end of June.
This includes a 36 percent increase in walk-in traffic since opening at the new location, she noted.
“That’s a huge increase for the summer time, for July, August and September compared to last year, which is great,” McCormick enthused.
“We’ve noticed a lot more people coming in, and people who we can help, that fall within our mandate, so that’s been real good.”
Slated to run from 2-4:30 p.m., people can come out to tour the new office, learn about the legal clinic’s history and services offered, meet the staff, and have a snack.
The open house hopefully will continue to raise awareness about what services the legal clinic can offer, noted McCormick—to let people know that they’re there and what they can do for people.
“It’s nice being a storefront on the main street in town,” she added.
“Hopefully it’s easier for people to come in, and come visit us on Friday.”
In related news, the legal clinic’s annual general meeting also is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Funded through Legal Aid Ontario, the Northwest Community Legal Clinic helps provide assistance to people with limited income in a variety of legal matters and issues.
