Knox United Church slipped a spot yesterday in the Aviva Community Fund Challenge.
With just today and tomorrow left in the semi-final round, the local church needs every vote it can get.
“Yesterday was a nail-biter,” admitted Bill Gushulak.
“We slipped three spots down to 14th place in the afternoon, but managed to rebound a bit in the evening and finish at number 12 with 4,843 votes—only five ahead of 13th place,” he noted.
“We accumulated more votes yesterday than in any other day but still didn’t manage to hold onto 11th place,” Gushulak added.
“The competition is fierce and we’ll need to do everything we can to ensure we maintain our position or advance before the semi-finals wrap up tomorrow,” he stressed.
The church is vying for funding to make the building more accessible.
It is working to install an elevator and barrier-free washrooms, with a price tag of about $160,000.
The local submission needs to at least finish in the top 15 to move on to the final round—and a shot at the $100,000 grand prize.
So it needs the community to vote both today and tomorrow before 11 a.m. (CST), when voting wraps up.
Gushulak thanked everyone for their support so far.
“We’re getting closer every day to achieving our goal of making Knox a safe and welcoming place for everyone,” he remarked.
