Knox off to good start

With voting for the Aviva Community Fund Challenge having started yesterday, the Knox United Church Renewal Fundraising Committee said they are off to a good start.
“At the end of the first day of voting, we were in 14th place with 466 votes while the top three ideas in our budget category each finished the day with over 1,100 votes,” noted campaign co-chair Bill Gushulak.
“If we are to gain ground in the rankings, we need to do it quickly,” he said.
“Even an extra 85 votes would have landed us in the top 10 so there’s still time to gain some ground.
“Every vote counts,” Gushulak stressed.
The local church is competing in the semi-final round—and hopes to make it to the final one in order to receive funding for its project to make the building more accessible.
They are working to install an elevator and barrier-free washrooms, with a price tag of about $160,000.
And since it is a building that’s well-used by community members, the church is asking all residents for their support.
In addition to voting, people can help further by sharing the link on Facebook or Twitter, as well as e-mailing contacts to ask for their votes.
People also are asked to leave a comment on Knox’s submission.
“It’s easiest to do this before you vote,” Gushulak explained, noting you simply can scroll down to the comments section at www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf19619.
Gushulak said anyone having difficulty with registration or voting can call him at 274-3891 or 275-9252, or Lisa Brockie at 271-0073.
People also can feel free to drop by Lowery’s or Wilson’s here as both stores have a computer set up for Aviva voting.
“We’re very happy with the support we’re receiving, even received our Loyalty Badge, which is pretty good,” Gushulak enthused.
“We encourage everyone to recognize that every vote is crucial. . . .
“It is important that we try and gain some ground on them [the front-runners] as the days go by,” he added.
