Knox likely to advance

Knox United Church here is expecting its submission in the Aviva Community Fund Challenge will move on to the semi-final round after an intense two-week voting period wrapped up yesterday.
Entered in the $50,000-$100,000 category, the local church is seeking funding for its renewal project to make the building more accessible.
Bill Gushulak, co-chair of the fundraising campaign, noted voting closed at 3 p.m. yesterday instead of at 11 a.m. as was originally expected.
“No explanation was provided for the extended voting time,” he noted.
“But the good news is with the great support Knox received from [our] supporters, we finished in 14th place.”
The top 15 vote leaders in each category will move directly to the semi-final round.
Two more qualifying rounds are set to take place before the semi-final voting begins Dec. 1.
Knox now must wait for the official tabulation and an announcement Friday about which projects qualify to go straight to the semi-finals.
“[But] from initial local calculations, Knox should be on that list,” Gushulak noted.
He added once their spot in the semi-finals is confirmed, the committee will begin finalizing a plan of action for the next round of voting in December.
