The Fort Frances Fire Department responded to a fire at a residence on the 800 block of Second Street East last Thursday.
The small blaze, which started when a pot of wax on the stove caught fire, was reported at 6:45 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the homeowners, who had been alerted of the fire by a working smoke detector, extinguishing the blaze themselves.
But not before the heat and smoke from the blaze caused $15,000 in damage to the area around the stove.
No one was hurt in the accident, and the residents were insured.
Fort Frances Fire Chief Steve Richardson is reminding all residents to mind candles this Christmas season, always be in the same room with any of them, and never use them near or on Chris-mas trees.
He added with some people indulging in spirits this festive season, people should recall that alcohol and cooking also don’t mix.
