The Northwest Catholic District School Board invites present kindergarten registrants and potential ones to a “Welcome to Kindergarten” orientation workshop for parents and their children next Thursday (May 21) at St. Michael’s School.
The workshop will start in the school gym with a meet-and-greet session from 3-3:30 p.m., followed by an orientation session from 3:30-5 p.m.
A similar session will take place in the fall.
Before starting school, through this orientation workshop, children are given preparatory resources and experiences to position themselves for school success and lifelong learning.
Parents/guardians attending the session will receive early learning and literacy resources as part of the “Welcome to Kindergarten” program, and learn strategies for using the resources with their child.
The goal is to provide pre-school children with resources and experiences to begin their formal education in literacy and numeracy, as well as sharpen their fine motor skills.
A learning experience that is nurtured in the home as well as school eases the transition between home and school.
The staff of St. Michael’s School will be looking forward to welcoming parents and students to the Catholic school community.
