The Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Interpretive Centre will host an “Honouring All Nations” pow-wow next Wednesday (July 25), with grand entry at 1 p.m. sharp at the traditional round house located on the site.
The centre is located on Shaw Road, south of Stratton (watch for signs on Highway 11 in Stratton).
Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung site manager Art Hunter is looking forward to many people coming out to participate and observe the pow-wow, which will feature traditional drum “Bwaan dewe’igan” from Manitou Rapids, contemporary drum “Thunderheart” from Couchiching, and many local and area dancers.
The afternoon also will include a walleye dinner for participants, visitors, and guests.
“The pow-wow is an opportunity for people to come together and share song and dance,” noted Hunter.
“It is a time to honour our ancestors through ceremony,” he explained.
Everyone is welcome to attend the pow-wow.
Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted for future programming.
The Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Interpretive Centre is open for tours on Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Lunch also is served in the Hungry Hall.
The centre hosts people from around the world who are visiting the area.
