Employees of Abitibi-Consolidated’s Fort Frances Division reached a safe hours milestone, then helped the “Just Imagine” campaign reach a significant milestone.
Mill manager John Harrison announced a donation of $35,000 last Friday on behalf of the employees of the Fort Frances Division.
The donation represents a gift of roughly $50 from each employee in recognition of 500,000 safe hours worked.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate the 500,000 safe hours,” said Harrison. “I wanted to do something lasting in the area of health and safety.
“At this time, the most significant way to celebrate with lasting benefit to us and our families is to support the CT Scanner [fundraiser],” he added.
Teresa Hazel, director of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, was elated when she received the call from Harrison.
“I was ecstatic. It [the donation] helped us reach $1 million this week,” she announced. “What an awesome way to recognize employees for this accomplishment.”
Deane Cunningham, chair of the “Just Imagine” campaign, was pleased to receive the gift—and equally as pleased to be at the million-dollar mark.
“This is a major milestone in our campaign and the people of the Rainy River District have made it happen,” said Cunningham.
“We’ve only got $500,000 left to go. We’re almost there!” he enthused.
