Junior runners nab gold

The Muskie cross-country team was nothing short of impressive in its season-opening meet yesterday.
The junior girls’ squad, comprised of Ashlyn Beck, Greta Fedoruk, Grace Kowal, and Jaida Norris, easily took gold in its division by grabbing three of the top-five finishes at the SSSAA Time Trials in Thunder Bay.
The Midget girls’ squad, meanwhile, also took three of the top-five finishes and placed second as a team–just missing out on the gold by a single point.
It is comprised of Emma Toriseva, Montana Plasky, Jenna Furlong, Lexi McAdam, and Lillian McKenzie.
Other standouts for the Muskies yesterday were James Furlong, who ran a strong eighth in the junior boys’ division, and Tori Toriseva and Alacea Yerxa, who placed fourth and 11th, respectively, in the senior girls’ race.
The black-and-gold are back in action next Thursday (Sept. 27) at the Evergreen Classic in Kenora.
