My name is June Caul and I am hoping to be elected as your new mayor in the upcoming municipal election.
I am a lifetime resident of Fort Frances and I am proud to say that my son and daughter have remained here to work and raise my grandchildren. I am a retired teacher and was employed by the Rainy River District School Board for more than 30 years.
I have been a volunteer in this community since my children were young. Being an active volunteer has helped me realize and understand the needs of people of all ages in Fort Frances.
To do a good job of representing your community, I feel it is absolutely necessary to support and work with every organization, not just in principle but beside them.
I am a founding member of the Age-Friendly Community Committee, a member of the Right Relations Circle Committee, the Youth Centre Committee, and the Rainy River District Safe Communities Committee.
As well, I am currently president of the Rainycrest Auxiliary, chairperson of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Council, and a director of the local Kiwanis Club. I am a member of the recently-formed Substance Abuse Prevention Team and I also sing with the Fort Frances Choraliers.
I am a past member of the Assisted Living Action Group (A.L.A.G.) and Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.), and a past director of the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
I believe that being out in the public is absolutely essential to being a good representative of your residents and community.
As your mayor, I would build and maintain strong community ties, enhance and embrace diversity in our community, promote Fort Frances and its attributes to potential new businesses and population growth, promote local businesses through advertising (i.e., billboards, pamphlets, and coupons to entice visitors to stop and shop), and promote our area as a conference/retreat and wedding destination on beautiful Rainy Lake.
I will ensure there continues to be strong asset management of our infrastructure, making sure we continue to have good potable water, upgrades and replacement of roads, sewer, and water, an affordable power agreement, and strong police and firefighting teams and services.
I will ensure that we continue to increase and support our community hubs that build socialization and community spirit.
I want to bring in much-needed senior housing transition options to Fort Frances from independent living to assisted living to long-term care.
I will work hard to resolve Point Park issues through positive negotiations, open lines of communication, and by working together with our neighbours to make the park a beautiful recreation site for the benefit of our residents and neighbours.
I will build on community drug and mental health initiatives, networking with OPP and health-care workers to develop strategic plans to provide appropriate treatment programs to ensure our community is a safe and healthy place to live.
I look forward to developing our newly-acquired wood yard property into a community hub for people of all ages, to bring in new business opportunities and increase our tax base, and to work with Resolute to bring the mill closure to a positive solution that will benefit all parties.
I look forward to the opportunity to become mayor of Fort Frances. I will continue to work hard for the benefit of all ages. I will continue to always be present and work alongside each and every resident, group, committee, and board to promote and make Fort Frances the best community to live in!
I am asking for your vote in this 2018 municipal election.
