JUNE CAUL (2014 election)

My immediate family has lived in Fort Frances for 85 years. I grew up on the family farm at Frog Creek, and have lived and worked here my entire life.
I am proud to say my two children chose to stay in Fort Frances after they completed university. They live and work here and are raising my grandchildren (the fifth generation of my family) right here in Fort Frances.
I am a retired teacher and was employed with the Rainy River District School Board for about 30 years. I have volunteered in our community since my children were young.
I am currently the president of the Rainycrest Auxiliary, vice-chair of the Assisted Living Action Group, chairperson of the Zion Lutheran Church Council, and a member of the Kiwanis Club. I also sing with the Fort Frances Choraliers and Fort Harmonies.
Being an active volunteer has helped me to appreciate the need of people of all ages in Fort Frances. I believe that being out in the public is absolutely essential to being a good representative of the people.
I am very interested and concerned about the future of Fort Frances and our residents. I want to do as much as I can to help rebuild and restructure our tax base through careful and intelligent choices when spending taxpayers’ money.
Administration and council work for the taxpayers of Fort Frances, and need to include and respect residents’ feelings and idea when making major decisions for the town. To keep Fort Frances a thriving community, it is absolutely essential for council to investigate all avenues and accept any viable business opportunities presented to the town.
We must continue to attract our young people to remain in Fort Frances when they begin their careers while enticing others to choose Fort Frances as their home and place of business.
Seniors also are one of the most important assets to our community. The majority of volunteers in most organizations in Fort Frances are seniors. Without them, many activities would not exist, including “Meals on Wheels,” the bass tournament, blood donor clinic, and more.
We must ensure that our seniors, who are a large part of our tax base, have their needs met and are able to remain in our community.
Since being involved in various organizations, I have become more determined to help Fort Frances continue to thrive and grow. I feel I can do this by becoming a member of town council.
Dealing with issues as they arise in an effective manner, I hope to bring a fresh perspective and energy by becoming a member of council. I am a hard-working team player who will approach this position in a positive manner and will be open to ideas expressed by the taxpayers of Fort Frances.
I look forward to having the opportunity to work with administration and Fort Frances council.
