Judoist failed to make national team

Jared Catholique-Bruyere attended the judo provincial qualifiers in Toronto last weekend but didn’t seal a spot on the national team.
“He came up short,” noted his father, Wallace Bruyere. “[But] he is the alternate for the team so if someone gets hurt, he will go in their place.”
Catholique-Bruyere managed four wins out of his five fights but unfortunately his lone loss against Thomas Filter (Ottawa area) left him in third place.
“He got kneed in the nose and began to bleed. And once you begin to bleed in a fight, the refs watch you closely,” Bruyere noted.
“It was pretty tight competition between the three of them [but] he will get another chance next year,” Bruyere reasoned. “He was disappointed the day it happened but he got over it.”
Catholique-Bruyere will be competing regularly in the coming months for some spring meets.
