Island fire reported on Rainy


A lightning-caused fire was reported yesterday on an island on the north arm of Rainy Lake.
Fort Frances Fire #14 is a 0.1-hectare blaze located northwest of Sear’s Bay.
This fire will be allowed to fulfill its natural role in the environment but will be monitored by the Fort Frances Fire Management Headquarters, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.
Two other fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday.
Nipigon Fire #24, located northwest of the community of Fort Hope, is a 2.0-hectare, lightning-caused blaze that also will be allowed to burn.
Meanwhile, Nipigon Fire #25 is located just west of O’Sullivan Lake.
This fire is small at just 0.1 ha in size, and no problems are anticipated putting it “out.”
There currently are 15 active fires in the region, covering 486.6 ha in total.
