A broken insulator was the cause of a blackout that twice affected homes and businesses in the west end of town last night.
“It was just an insulator that let go,” Jim Kibiuk, president and CEO of the Fort Frances Power Corp., said this morning.
“Our crews received a call and responded quickly and dealt with it, and replaced the part with a new one right away,” he noted.
The insulator was located on the Third Street West feeder system in the Wright Avenue and Sixth Street area.
“It’s just one of those things that happens from time to time, that’s all,” Kibiuk said.
The power first went out around 6 p.m. for a 40-minute period, came back on for a short while, then went out again for another 50 minutes.
“When the initial outage had occurred, the power was reset,” explained Kibiuk. “The insulator did hold for just a short period of time, then it let go and it had to be replaced by our workers.”
The insulator has been replaced and is no longer an issue, he added.
