The Town of Fort Frances will be getting an annual allocation of $165,000 a year for 2014-2016 under the new permanent Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), which is meant to provide a steady source of predictable, long-term funding.
Other recipients and the amount of annual funding they’ll receive, includes:
•Township of Alberton ($25,000);
•Township of Atikokan ($79,400);
•Township of Chapple ($25,000);
•Township of Emo ($25,000);
•Township of La Vallee ($25,000); and
•Town of Rainy River ($29,500)
The $100-million per year fund supports the revitalization and repair of roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure in small, rural and northern communities.
CIF includes $50 million per year in application-based funding and another $50 million per year in stable, predictable formula-based funding.
Through the OCIF, 426 communities across the province will receive annual funding to support improvements and repairs to road, bridge, water and wastewater projects.
The improvements to local infrastructure will help revitalize the community while creating jobs and strengthening the local economy.
