Northern Community Development Services (NCDS) is excited to announce it is hosting its first-ever career fair and training expo.
Entitled “Shape Your Future,” this project could not have come at a better time, said case manager Kelly Kennedy.
“With the steadily-declining forestry sector and the projected booming job market in the mining industry, this career fair is really needed in this community,” Kennedy stressed.
“The Rainy River District is lacking information on how to make a smooth transition into these forecasted employment opportunities and NCDS is really hoping that the public will be able to get all their questions answered to make good future career decisions.”
The interactive career fair will be held Thursday, May 24 at the Memorial Sports Centre here.
The objective is for attendees to gather current information about career prospects, job openings, organizations, and services, as well as to meet with potential employers and educators.
Employers also will be able to interact with the attendees to gain information to meet their own human resource needs.
“Shape Your Future” is expected to accommodate more than 70 booths of varying sizes, and both arena floors will be occupied.
The venue also will feature areas for on-site workshops and interactive presentations.
NCDS is in the process of recruiting exhibitors and welcomes ideas from the public.
“We want this career fair to be very interactive,” said Kennedy.
“If employers or tradespeople want to showcase their skills and industries, we encourage them to contact our office at 274-2282.
“Our mission is to display this information in such a way that it is interactive and will engage attendees,” Kennedy noted.
Staff have been working diligently on this proposed plan for more than a year, and finally can announce that Service Canada–Youth Awareness Strategy has awarded NCDS to present a career fair of this magnitude.
“We have many proposed activities and special touches that will make this day a huge highlight for the Rainy River District, including Question Hour (Pros in the Know), an interactive game show, promotional items, door prize, greeters/ambassadors, and much more!” enthused Kennedy.
