An Iowa man has been fined $2,000 for illegally constructing a cabin on Crown land.
Dan Hupfer of Cedar Rapids pleaded guilty to illegally constructing a building on Crown land without a permit.
In addition to the fine, he was ordered to remove the cabin.
Court heard that Hupfer is part owner of a property near the English River, about 20 km east of Ear Falls.
During the summers of 2010 and 2011, he was involved in constructing a cabin. He neglected to contact the proper authorities before starting construction to determine the location of the property lines and what permits were required to build it.
As a result, the cabin was constructed illegally on Crown land.
Justice of the Peace Marjorie Pasloski heard the case May 23 in Red Lake.
