Idylwild fire likely human-caused

A fire that burned about one hectare of brush along Idylwild Drive here Wednesday evening likely was caused by human activity, the local Ministry of Natural Resources said Thursday morning.
“We’re pretty confident it was human causes,” said Gary Harland, fire operations supervisor with the MNR. “We know there was no lightning.”
An MNR fire crew spotted the blaze as they were returning from the end of their shift around 8:05 p.m.
The crew was on scene for about two hours Wednesday, then went back out for another two hours Thursday morning to ensure the fire was out.
“We were lucky the winds were low,” Harland noted.
This was the 15th fire in Fort Frances District since the fire season began April 1.
The MNR has imposed a Restricted Fire Zone across much of the northwest until conditions improve.
“We’re very concerned given how dry it is,” Harland said.
