Voyageurs National Park has begun checking lake ice conditions.
At this time, travel is not recommended on any lake surface due to inadequate ice thickness.
As well, three hazardous pressure ridges have been found on Rainy Lake in Black Bay.
Park staff will continue to check ice conditions on a daily basis between Island View and Ash River.
If cold weather conditions continue, park staff expects to have the Green Trail staked and open by Christmas.
Land-based ski trails are being prepared, but are not yet open.
Regular weekly winter trail condition reports will be available on the park’s website at www.nps.gov/voya.
