On January 7, 2024, at approximately 11:09 p.m. the Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service responded to a house fire in the 800 hundred block of Nelson Street.
Six full time firefighters, six part-time firefighters, and the fire chief responded with a pumper truck, an aerial ladder truck, and a rescue pickup truck.
Upon arrival, fire fighters found a detached dwelling with heavy smoke and fire, which was venting from an upstairs window; the fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished by suppression crews.
Due to their rapid response to the scene, fire crews contained the fire to an upstairs bedroom; the remainder of the dwelling suffered smoke damage.
The occupants of the home escaped the fire; there were no injuries reported.
The origin of the fire has been determined; the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Meanwhile, I would like to thank all responding team members of the Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service, the OPP and the Fort Frances Power Corporation for their quick response to this incident.
Well done!
In addition, we are eight days into the new year, and Canada has already recorded multiple fire-related fatalities across our country. I would like to remind people to continue to practice fire safety in their place of residence by ensuring that working smoke alarms are installed on every level of their residence, and outside/near all sleeping areas. As well, for added protection we highly recommend installing working smoke alarms inside each bedroom/sleeping area.
Please stay vigilant in your efforts to ensure the protection of your family.
Fire Safety … it starts with you!
