The executive of the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary met for its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 2.
Mary Jane Pearson said preparations for the annual “Fall Harvest Tea,” set for this Saturday (Oct. 13) from 2-4 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship, were well underway.
She reminded members they will be receiving calls for donations of dainties, sandwiches, cookies, and baking for the tables.
New this year is the white elephant table. Those with gently-used fall or Hallowe’en items are asked to call Renee McDonald at 274-3906 or drop off items at the hospital gift shop.
The auxiliary also is asking those with extra garden produce to bring it in to be offered for sale at the tea.
Membership will have a table so members can renew for next year. New members always are welcome.
The capital pledge for 2018-19 will be announced at the tea.
In other news, the auxiliary is in the process of setting up to entertain patients in CCU at the hospital with friendly visits, cards, Bingo, birthday parties, etc. All members interested in helping a few hours a week can contact Irene Laing (274-9560) or Judy Webster (274-3190).
A police check and orientation package must be completed before this program can be initiated.
All members should have received their October newsletter by now. If you did not, contact Janet Lambert (274-2713).
Donna Penney, Sick and Visiting, mentioned that if members know of any member who is unwell or has a family loss to contact her at 274-6406 so a card can be sent.
Marnie Cumming is looking for a few interested members to sit on the Gift Shop committee. This is a short-term commitment to develop future plans for the gift shop.
If interested, call Marnie at 274-3368.
Janet Lambert, convener for the “Spirit of Christmas,” noted plans are coming along nicely. The full advertising campaign should begin later this month.
There have been some major donations, as well as many crafters and artisans who are preparing items to donate for auction at this event on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Copper River Inn.
If members would like to donate a hand-crafted item or gift or gift basket, contact Janet (274-2713).
There also is a Gently-Used Christmas Table and donations of very gently-used items also are welcome.
The auxiliary would like to invite younger members of our community to become involved in this event and others.
High school students interested in obtaining their community service hours can contact Janet.
The executive would like to remind members of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s annual gala, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Memorial Sports Centre auditorium.
At this time, auxiliary president Judy Webster and the executive would like to wish all members a very Happy Thanksgiving.
