“GARDENING AGAIN—IN 2010!” is the theme the Fort Frances Horticultural Society executive and directors chose at their planning meeting.
The 2010 board will be comprised Nadia Felix (president), Bev Melynchuk (first vice-president), Marie Anderson (second vice-president), Evelyn Goldamer (secretary), and Nell Laur (treasurer).
One-year directors include Evelyn Myers, Janet Lambert, Marilyn Stinson, Irene Hill-Haver, and Viv O’Donnell.
Sitting on the board as two-year directors are Mark Gerber, Pat Basaraba, Kathy Haukaas, Laurie Miller, and Astrid Sobkowicz.
The regular meetings for 2010 will be held on the fourth Monday of the month from March through October at the old CN station meeting room, with the first meeting slated for March 22 starting at 7 p.m.
Members and prospective members are encouraged to come early to register for membership ($10), as well as receive the program outline for the year.
The program the Society will offer this year includes many of the usual ones, such as the potato contest, the Picnic in the Park potluck, the photo contest, Taste of the Harvest, show and tell, the August flower and vegetable show, visits to gardens, and/or interesting flora and fauna.
As well, there will be presentations, such as on soil preparation for indoor plants, deer busters, and other topics the members would like to see presented.
Kathy Haukaas is the program chairperson and any ideas should be passed on to her.
The major community initiative this year will be one of the courtyards at Rainycrest.
It also is expected the ongoing projects of beautifying the town (e.g., the Good Neighbour bed, the old CN station, etc.) will continue.
We hope to see you all out on Monday, March 22 to welcome in “Gardening again—in 2010.”
Also at this meeting, members will pay tribute to our past president, the late Helen Crook, for the outstanding contribution she made during her presidency.
