Horticultural Society

The Fort Frances Horticultural Society will officially meet its new district director at special meeting here tonight.
“The Ontario Horticultural Association is split up into districts, and we’re #14,” Society president Vivian O’Donnell said yesterday.
“And Harriet Hansen from Nipigon [who was elected district director at an annual meeting in Atikokan this past spring] is making her first visit here,” she added.
The meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the old CN station, also will feature a talk by Anne Roddy, also of Nipigon. “She’ll speak on perennials and herbs for our northern climate,” said O’Donnell.
Also on display will be a display of garden stones some members designed under the tutelage of local artist Heather Johnson.
Roddy and Hansen—who most recently have been making their rounds through Dryden and Atikokan—visited some Society members’ homes here and gave them tips on gardening, noted O’Donnell.
The horticultural society will be holding its annual wind-up meeting next Monday (Oct. 22) at 6 p.m. at the old CN station.
The event will feature a potluck supper, silent auction, and election of officers for 2002.
