A large crowd of onlookers gathered around the paddock hoping to catch a glimpse of action during the annual horse show held in conjunction with the Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society’s fall fair in Emo last week.
Show organizer Angela Halvorsen said she was excited about the crowd turnout on Saturday.
“Lots of people came and checked out the horse showing probably because of the nice weather,” she noted. “We also had a nice mix of riders, all at various levels of skill.”
The high point awards were as follows:
•Miniature Horse–“Sadie,” shown by Shane and Audrey Brown of Stratton;
•Draft Horse–“Midnight,” shown by Les and Erin Caul of Devlin;
•Performance 13 years and under–“Yahoo,” shown by Kristin Paquette of Murillo;
• Performance 14-18 years–“Aristide,” shown by Amanda Paquette of Murillo;
•Performance Novice–“CJ’s Winn Dixie,” shown by Carina Mack of Emo;
•Performance Senior 19 and over–“Free ‘N Easy,” shown by Tammy Paquette of Murillo;
•Gymkhana 13 years and under–“Veto Bar Miss,” shown by Chelsey Brown of Stratton;
•Gymkhana Open 14 years and over–“Freedom Dancer AA,” shown by Brandy Strachan of Emo; and
•Gymkhana Novice–“Ranger,” shown by Emily Esselink of Devlin
The trophy winners were:
•George Meyers Memorial Trophy (Champion Mare)–“Midnight & Star,” shown by Les and Erin Caul of Devlin;
•Grand Champion Mare–“Midnight & Star,” shown by Les and Erin Caul of Devlin;
•Cecil & Lillian Kellar Memorial Trophy–Harold and Karen Kellar; and
•Best Dressed, Groomed and Mannered Team–“Midnight & Star,” shown by Les and Erin Caul of Devlin
