taking shape
The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is planning its annual home and leisure show slated for May 11-12, and needs volunteers to help make it run smoothly.
Chamber manager Anthony Mason said volunteers are crucial to running such an event.
“The volunteers I get are priceless,” he stressed. “If you don’t have volunteers, you don’t have any event.
“I am asking students, anyone that wants to get involved,” added Mason, reminding Fort High students they can earn community service hours needed to graduate by volunteering.
Mason said he’s looking for volunteers to assist us with door admissions, floor ambassadors, and game co-ordinators.
He added anyone with an interest in event planning, who wants to gain some experience at it, also is encouraged to step forward.
Mason said he also will need two people to help set up the draperies around the show floor the day prior (May 10), which are paid positions.
If you want to volunteer, contact Rainy River Future Development Corp. clerk-secretary Sandra Whalen at 274-3276 by May 1.
The theme for this year’s home and leisure show, which once again will take place at the Memorial Sports Centre, is “Bringing It Home.”
Mason said the event will be more focused on home renovations.
“As you know, [Chamber president] Mark Caron is a contractor, and we thought it would be a perfect time to try to bring it back to an event where people could come by and say, ‘Hey, this is what I want for my house,’” he explained.
“We’re trying to get contractors in town to participate in the show this year so they can show the consumers, ‘This is what we do. This is what we can do.’
“And hopefully, we can convince the businesses to come out with their reps and salesmen, selling new products,” Mason added.
While more and more details are falling into place all the time, Mason did confirm the home and leisure show will feature the return of a “Strongman” contest, as well as some sort of game in which people can participate to win prizes.
Mason said the Chamber also is looking to bring in a guest speaker on the topic of home renovations.
