Home show already attracting exhibitors

FORT FRANCES—With spring getting closer all the time, plans already are coming together for the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s 21st-annual home and leisure show here May 1-2.
Chamber manager Dawn Booth said exhibitor packages were sent out last month, and businesses already have started to sign up.
“We’ve made lots of progress—we have had lots of interest in it and have several booths booked already,” she remarked.
“So that’s positive.”
Booth said the show, which once again will take place at the Memorial Sports Centre, is the major focus of the Chamber right now.
Since it was so successful in 2008 with close to 4,000 people visiting the show, she added the event will be quite similar to last year’s, with amateur and children’s photo contests, cutest pet photo contest, a penny auction, and “Plinko,” in addition to the exhibitors and all they bring to the event.
The theme for this year is “Celebrating 100 Years of Business,” which is fitting given 2009 is the Chamber’s 100th anniversary.
“We will be doing a big birthday party-type theme, and having a big celebration, probably each day, where we have cake and balloons and all that fun stuff, dignitaries coming in and sharing a few words,” noted Booth.
Booth added she sent out exhibitor packages (the majority via e-mail) last month, but anyone who wants information, she can send it to them electronically or through regular mail.
She also encouraged people to check out the Chamber’s website at www.fortfranceschamber.com
The site contains some useful comments stemming from last year’s home and leisure show.
For example, visitors indicated they would like to see more food vendors, building products and tools, home decorating ideas, windows, furniture, electronics and gaming, interactive displays and demonstrations, aboriginal exhibits, and arts and crafts this year.
