CALGARY—The show may lack the sizzle of a “CSI” or “Grey’s Anatomy” episode, but Shaw Communications said it’s holiday fire log program is so hot that it’s firing up the channel more than a month early.
The annual program, now in it’s 21st year, is really nothing more than a camera pointed at a fireplace. Occasionally, a hand enters the frame to stoke the fire.
The cable provider ran the show from Dec. 24-27 last year, but it started airing the log on Nov. 12 this year and plans to keep it burning until Jan. 20.
“We understand the momentous popularity of this channel, and we enjoy bringing it back every year so Shaw customers can add a little warmth to their homes over the Christmas season,” said Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw Communications Inc.
The Shaw fire log first charmed viewers when it aired in Edmonton over the 1986 Christmas season.
The original show was a simple crackling fireplace view, but Shaw has since experimented with holiday music accompaniment and several different fireplace scenes.
It even aired a similar program featuring the “stoking hand” attending to a roasting turkey.
Bissonnette noted the fire log program has gained a very loyal fan base over the years, especially among those who grew up with the tradition.
“Our stellar cast of fire log and hand is what keeps our customers wanting to see this holiday classic year after year,” he said.
The log can be seen on Shaw digital channels 280 or 1, or on Star Choice channels 238 or 299. Regular Shaw cable subscribers can find it in their local listings.
