Ontario is continuing to improve local highway infrastructure that will promote economic development and job creation in Northwestern Ontario with two recently-awarded major projects.
A $4.8-million contract, awarded to Pioneer Construction Inc., will rehabilitate almost 16 km of Highway 11 east of Fort Frances.
Also, more than $2.6 million is being invested in the rehabilitation of the Nestor Falls and Log River bridges on Highway 71, with work to be carried out by Facca Inc.
As part of the Northern Highways Program, these projects will create direct and in-direct jobs in the north, as well as help people and goods get to their destination with greater certainty and efficiency.
“By improving northern transportation infrastructure, the Ontario government is working to create new economic activity and jobs throughout the region,” said Northern Development and Mines minister Michael Gravelle.
“Investing in expanded and improved transportation infrastructure will promote economic growth in the north, and generate construction jobs,” echoed Transportation minister Jim Bradley.
